Today’s “awesome but unknown” exercise is..... KANG SQUATS! (That was me, forcefully generating hype for kang squats) So, kang squats - I wonder how many times I can say kang squats in one post? - combine the eccentric portion of a good morning with the concentric portion of a squat! Double the trouble! The benefits are 3 fold: ☝️you get to load the eccentric good morning way heavier than you usually would, as you’re just going to squat the weight back up. This means you load up the hamstrings and glutes to a higher extent than you would normally. ✌️it really highlights the importance of the hip hinge in your squats, I generally find people sit way deeper into their kang squats than their back squats due to the having hinged their hips back to a greater extent (is why it doubles as a great hip opener before squats!) 🤟 the glute activation is astronomical. I feel like a demon has crawled inside my bum muscle today. So give these spicy little senoritas a go as a: 🦄 pre squat activation - go for 4 sets of 3 with light/medium loads, stretching the hamstrings and hips and getting the glutes firing. 🙏 if your squat or deadlift has plateaued, use as strength exercise - going for load and speed through the squat, try 5-6 sets of 1-3. 🍑 as a building exercise focusing on squeezing the glutes HARD and slowing down the tempo - try 4 sets of 6-8 at a 3121 tempo. . 🔸Eating out can be a difficult one. Ideally you’d go out to a restaurant that puts its nutritional facts online, pick something that fits your calories and macros for the day and everything’s fine🤔 . 🔸In reality there’s a few issues with this, it’s not always possible and when it is possible it’s not always bearable. So what I’ll address today is the bulk of us, no short term dieters, no competitors etc. Those guys and girls need to stay strict and find a way to deal with it 😤 . 🔸For us mere mortals, there’s a few things we can do to limit the damage -Firstly, reduce your calories for the rest of the day but keep your protein as high as you can. Save those calories. -Secondly, don’t over indulge. Enjoy your meal and have what you want but don’t eat until you feel sick and your jeans buttons are flying off. -Third, watch your liquid calories! Ideally you’d go out to a restaurant that puts its nutritional facts online, pick something that fits your calories and macros for the day and everything’s fine🤔 . 🔸In reality there’s a few issues with this, it’s not always possible and when it is possible it’s not always bearable. So what I’ll address today is the bulk of us, no short term dieters, no competitors etc. Those guys and girls need to stay strict and find a way to deal with it 😤 . 🔸For us mere mortals, there’s a few things we can do to limit the damage -Firstly, reduce your calories for the rest of the day but keep your protein as high as you can. Save those calories. -Secondly, don’t over indulge. Enjoy your meal and have what you want but don’t eat until you feel sick and your jeans buttons are flying off. -Third, watch your liquid calories!
